“Whyte Gurl” is the creation of a feminist hip-hop artist. Misogyny in mainstream hip-hop is prevalent; however, Whyte Gurl brings that conversation to light. Using performance and humour to critique everyday misogyny as well as an exploration in self representation. Creating a piece of pop culture using the language of hip-hop and also my own cultural language, to play with expectations of gender. Influenced by hip-hop from childhood I hope to stick to its roots of being about the issues as I critique its misogyny in mainstream culture. Whyte Gurl seeks to become a piece of the mainstream as persona that fights back against misogyny.
